Letter to The Community: It’s Time to Unite Behind Adam Hollier
As our nation’s leaders navigate tough issues from wars abroad to a changing economy here at home, it’s more important than ever that the Detroit area has the strong, effective representation it deserves in the halls of Congress. That’s why we are coming together today to strongly endorse Adam Hollier to be the next Congressman from the 13th District, and to call upon all Democrats to unite behind Adam and his vision for a stronger future.
Adam understands what this community needs because he is from this community. He was born and raised here in Detroit. He went to public schools right here. The son of a union firefighter and a social worker, Adam knows that when you care about a place, you fight for it. That’s why he is raising his family here, and that’s why he never stops working to deliver for the people who call this community home.
Throughout his entire life Adam Hollier has taken on the biggest fights, and delivered. As our State Senator, he didn’t let being in the minority party stop him from getting the job done. He rolled up his sleeves, saved thousands of Detroit jobs, and brought back millions of dollars in investments to the district for job training and business development. When Adam enlisted in the U.S. Army, he signed up to jump out of airplanes so he could get to where help was needed the most.
And, when we lost an opportunity for a leader like Adam in Congress because of a 9-way primary last year, he refused to stop fighting for Michigan. He once again stepped up, joined Governor Whitmer’s Cabinet, and led Michigan’s Veterans Affairs Agency. He refused to back down, refused to quit, and his leadership led to bold new efforts to tackle veteran homelessness and suicide, and to create new job opportunities for those who served, That’s who Adam is - he steps up, refuses to back down no matter the obstacles, and delivers real results for his community.
As Governor Whitmer herself said, “Adam has made a real difference in the lives of thousands of Michiganders. Just like he did as Detroit’s State Senator, Adam delivered results. He’s been a strong, effective leader and a trusted voice in my cabinet.”
Adam knows that we need a fighter in Congress who will take on critical issues like the affordable housing crisis, the lack of living wage jobs that help people get ahead, and the scourge of gun violence that impacts far too many in our neighborhoods. These issues have impacted Adam and his family personally - that’s why he’ll never stop fighting to fix them.
The simple truth is that Washington is broken. Right wing politicians and out of touch multi-millionaires continue to turn a blind eye to the struggles of working people across the Detroit area. They care more about their next soundbite than they do about the people who have to work two jobs just to get by. They’d rather post memes than roll up their sleeves and actually get something done - and we’ve had more than enough of that.
Adam’s track record shows us exactly why he’d change all of that. As Senator, he brought back over $40 Million to his district, including much-needed investments for job training, career mentorship, and business development. He tackled critical issues like lead pipe replacement, fair election maps, and criminal justice reform. He was one of the leading voices in the nation standing up for trans women of color and greater protections and resources for the LGBTQ+ community. And, when radical Republicans tried to overthrow the 2020 election, it was Adam who got the call from President Biden’s campaign and rushed down to the TCF Center to protect the votes of thousands of Detroiters.
Over the past months, community members, faith leaders, activists, and elected officials from across the community have joined together to support Adam Hollier. Many of us supported other candidates in the 2022 primary. Many of us come from different backgrounds, different neighborhoods, and even different wings of our own party. But we all know that the only way we will win this race and bring real change to Washington is by standing united, from the outset. Division will only help to preserve the status quo - and we simply can’t afford that.
For the first time in 67 years, Detroit does not have a Black member of Congress. We know that Black voters are the bedrock of the Democratic party, and we know what Adam’s election will mean for so many across the community. Representation matters, and Adam’s election will energize and mobilize Black voters and young voters alike - two groups that will decide the fate of the Presidential election here in Michigan.
Today, we’re calling on voters from across the community to join us in supporting Adam Hollier for Congress. Adam has shown time and again that he will always answer the call, overcome any challenge in his way, and deliver real results for those who need it most. He’s someone who we can be proud of as he walks the halls of Congress - someone who will listen, who will show up, and who will never stop fighting for us.
Now more than ever, we need his voice in Washington.
